Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 17-06-2010

Mortgage fraud is the perversion or omission of details in the process of finding a loan for the purpose of financial advantage. It covers a large range and many sorts of criminal activities and its result reaches all of us in time as can now be seen through the foreclosure predicament and plunging housing values.

Unluckily with all the weakness of the present economy, mortgage fraud is on the rise as people become additionally desperate to regain their previous lifestyles. It may occur from either side on the mortgage transaction – borrower and lender.

One of the most familiar kind is falsified info provided over a loan application which accounts for nearly more than half of every mortgage scams. One more instance is falsifying or misleading support documents such as tax returns, bank statements, verification of employment and bank deposits, et cetera. Hidden kickbacks (amount given back at closing that is not recorded in any of the interrelated requirements), and / or excessively valuing an appraisal of the property resulting in an overblown buying price are other kinds. These are few examples of mortgage fraud and there are numerous additional variations, but the basic point is that no matter what number of shades of fraud one can find, be straightforward in the lending process because the penalties are fast and severe. They are also becoming increasingly more prosecuted.

Not only mortgage scams from the borrower’s part are on the increase, but additionally scams from a business part. Should you be considering buying or selling your house, obtain referrals for mortgage and real estate professionals and ensure to follow up in checking out their licenses with the state. Confer with the Better Business Bureau. Ask them for referrals from former clients that you can call if you’re still having trouble making a decision. Do some research to determine what properties are buying and selling for in your area. Be realistic in your evaluation. This provides you with an idea of whether the specialists are excessively inflating anything they’re informing you or if they’re on target. Understand all record and each line of everything you are obliged to sign. Tend not to leave any items blank and do not leave without your own copy of any and every signed documents. If you ever do not feel qualified to understand most of what you’re signing, take a trusted overseer with you. Proper companies should have no problem with several inquiries, outside aid, or waiting until you understand everything prior to continuing. Don’t feel pressured to serve their desires. These are decisions that need to be informed, careful, and deliberate as their effects may be long lasting and powerful. Lastly, don’t be tempted to fabricate any data you supply or allow any expert to talk you into doing so.

If you suspect you’re a target of mortgage fraud call a local FBI office (202-324-3000 – National FBI Financial Institution Fraud Unit). One more contact will be the Federal Trade Commission at (877) 382-4357. You must also report an objection to the Better Business Bureau within your city. Last of all, whatsoever you decide to try and do please take action fast so the culprits do not get away with it.

Do Not Get Burned By Debit Cards- Part One

Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 03-06-2010

The majority of people do not think anything of it when they hand over a debit card to purchase something, but not those that have been burned by debit card theft, debit cards that can be used like credit cards to be exact. Last summer, a native of San Jose, California used his debit card to book a rental car that he planned to drive from Memphis Tennessee to Saint Louis while he took a vacation over there.

The car supposedly would have cost him about two hundred and forty dollars. When he went to buy something in Memphis, he found out that his bank account had been frozen. What had taken place was that the rental car agency had placed a five hundred dollar hold on his account, an amount that was large enough to trigger a fraud alert at his bank. The man got his account reactivated almost immediately, but the five hundred dollar hold remained. Not even until he turned in the car, but for two days after the fact.

This victim may have gotten off a lot easier than others. Three years ago, an identity thief got a hold of a woman’s debit card number and made six hundred dollars worth of fraudulent buys with the card. Going back and forth between her bank and the merchants took up a lot of time and caused a lot of emotional pain and distress.

Eventually, she received some of the charges that were illegal made back, but was not able to recover almost one hundred and sixty dollars worth of the charges. The victim believes that because her loss was so small, it really did not receive any attention from the police. Unluckily, what is not a big deal for law enforcement obviously has a big impact on someone that is struggling to pay their bills.

Another Michigan denizen experienced a similar situation a few years ago. Article will be continued in parts two and three.

What You Need To Know About Scams

Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 14-05-2010

Doesn’t it grab your attention every time that you hear something that leads you to believe you are going to get something for nothing? We have been told since we were little that if it sounds too good to be true it most likely is. If it sounds too good there has almost always got to be a catch to it.

One instance of this type of scam caters to students. They offer free grants and scholarships but are nothing but a lie to steal the student’s money. There are actual legitimate scholarships and grants available, but make sure that you are not being taken advantage of before you sign up for anything.

We get junk mail every day. Some are innocent and some not. There are too many scams out there that look legit at first glance by using a name that you recognize but just change a couple letters in the name to make you trust them. Don’t do it.

Read the fine print and the wording of the text in each and every piece if mail you consider before signing up for a grant or scholarship that comes to you unexpectedly.

The easiest targets are students that don’t have a great GPA. They are looked at as the weak in the herd or victims. They seem to be the first to fall for these scams. Don’t ever believe “First come first served,” or you may be one of the first victims.

Another line to suck in victims of this type of scam is “You’ve Won.” Don’t believe it. If you win something, you most likely applied for it. This again falls under the rule of “If it sounds too good to be true it most likely is.”

Scams such as these may ask you for credit card information. They may even ask you for your bank account information “in order to hold your winnings.” Do not do this. This is a tell tale sign of a scam. No legitimate scholarship is going to ask for this information.

Also keep an eye out for the phrase “It’s guaranteed.” It’s probably not and you’ll be their next victim of their scam.

Besides email scams, this writer also frequently contributes articles regarding used wheel loaders.

Cash Advance Victims

Posted by Colin Jones | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 12-05-2010

The easy and quick means by which lenders are making cash advances available to people who need money on a short, temporary basis, is creating a social phenomenon called “cash advance dependence.” Many people are not even aware that they are gradually becoming dependent on these small, regular, temporary cash advances.

These individuals are creating an insecure, destructive ‘safety net’ for themselves, which they do not fully realize or are even aware of. The best policy is to admit you have a problem and get yourself out of it. Just going from loan to loan, month to month is a very fragile way of running your life. Just think, if you missed a couple of payments elsewhere and ruined your credit status, this credit line would soon disappear too.

People are finding out just how easy it is to obtain money with the modern methods cash advances. In some cases, this means that some people are taking out cash advances even when they do not have a financial crisis, which is what cash advances were first intended for. Some people are even using cash advances even for a birthday gift or a costly night out.

It really is the case, that people are using the money that they get from payday advance loans, to go on holiday, buy a new car or something like that. This is clearly not the smart way of using this financial implement. This is in fact abusing the privilege that one obtains from being able to get a cash advance. It is also destructive to one’s learning of how to handle money properly.

The “no credit policy” of the majority of local stores is also one of the reasons why people are becoming cash advances victims. It means that people feel that they have to borrow money from a loan advance company, which means in turn that they end up with a much higher debt to repay. If this train of events goes on unchecked, it can lead to some people having to file for bankruptcy, in turn transforms the problem from being just a personal one into a much larger, social problem.

The most important action you can take is to get out of debt as soon as possible. You could seek help from a financial adviser from your bank or from another private financial sector company. It is their job to help you take a step in the right direction by making regular payments, which will eventually get you out of debt. Soon, you will be able to enjoy your interest free, hard earned money and will be back on track to a better and healthier financial situation.

However, having said all that, I will say that cash advances should not be blamed for our own human weaknesses: the lack of financial education is the real culprit here.

The Ins and Outs Of Consumer Debt Collection – What Collection Agencies Can And Cannot Do

It begins with the mail. Then more aggressive mail. Then come calls on the telephone and worst of all, threats about credit reports or even a potential lawsuit.

Creditors will hire collection agencies to retrieve debt. Often these third-party companies will work for commission. Because of this, collectors are more likely to go after the money more vigorously. It is important to know your rights.

Collection agencies do have the right to report your debt to credit bureaus. Paying off the debt will not result in it being removed from your credit reports, it will be marked off as “paid.” They also can request a debtors credit report to analyze the person’s financial situation, or to get an updated address and phone number. And, although collection agencies do not like to send many accounts back, sometimes they will refer their account back to the creditor and recommend filing a law suit.

There are rules and regulations that collection agencies have to follow. Mail must be sent out in ambiguous envelops that do not reveal that any type of debt is owed. When calling on the phone, a collector may not disclose the reason for the call. For example, if a collector reaches an answering machine, they cannot state the purpose of their call, all they can do is leave their name and a number where they can be reached.

Although collection agencies are permitted to contact a debtor’s place of employment, they absolutely cannot get a debtor fired from their job. They are not able to make any kind of information concerning the debt public, although they can communicate openly with credit bureaus. Despite the fact that many people believe that a collection agency could legally seize a debtor’s bank account, paycheck and assets, the company cannot unless their has been a successful law suit ordering them to do so. Under no circumstances can a collection agency threaten a debtor with violence.

Even though some collections companies attempt to practice illegal strategies to get money, there are also a large number of reputable ones. With financial issues like debt, it is always crucial that you know your rights.

Do Your Home Work Before You Send Money to India

Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 07-03-2010

The need to send money to India in order to help support family members is quite regular. In fact, this nation is constantly at or near the top of the list of countries that receive the most funds in remittances each year. If you are interested in learning more facts regarding remittances to the country, read on.

In 2005, India topped the list of most remittances for the year at just over $24 billion. China and Mexico were the next two nations on the list. In 2008, it once again beat out China and Mexico with around $45 billion in remittances. Though clearly India is a very popular nation to send money to, it was not always this way. In 1990, just roughly $2 billion was transferred to the nation, a number that has risen slowly every year for almost two decades. In 1996, it equaled more than $12 billion, climbing to almost $22 billion in 2003.

Of course, the magnitude of the ability to send money to India has risen in the last 20 years, as well. This is because the GDP now depends on the funds sent, as so many citizens use it to fund their daily lives. In 1990, when transfers were a lot smaller than they currently are, they made up less than one percent of the GDP. In 1995, this amount increased to over three percent, and has stayed around that number since then. Unfortunately, the amount of people who send money to India is expected to fall by roughly seven percent as of 2009.

Despite the fact that the amount, of people who send money to India has indeed declined a bit since 2008, it has so far not declined quite as much as some experts predicted. This may be because more Indian immigrants are anxious about losing their savings, so they send it to the vaguely more stable Indian market. Additionally, it is obvious that relatives in India that get used to living off transfers still need help with their daily expenses, so relatives living in the United States are likely to still help them as much as possible. This means that if you have to send money to India, you will not be alone.

Fortunately, the same transfer, selections, as before are still available. You can send money to India using standard pathways like a bank or money transfer agencies, or you can opt to use more technology-driven methods, such as a prepaid debit card. The more you learn about remittances to the area, the easier it will be to select the best way for you to send money to India.

Bad Credit Repair – Defining The Problem

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 21-02-2010

Before you begin the process of repairing your credit, you first need to ask yourself why you are having credit problems? Poor credit is nothing to be ashamed of. It is far more common than you may realize. Often it may not even be your fault, like Gerald and Lisa.

They invested five years and all they money they saved to start a small sign company. Then one summer someone broke into their business office and stole all the computers and expensive sign-making equipment. Unfortunately they did not have any insurance to cover what was stolen, so they had to take out loans to replace the items so they could stay in business. It took them years to recover financially from that, leaving them with bad credit.

On the other hand, like Paul, some people make poor credit decisions. After Paul got his first card, shortly after graduating from college, he suddenly became flooded with offers for more credit, which he promptly took up. He wanted to show everyone that he was a success at his new career as a sales manager, so he filled up all his credit cards.

Then he began the juggling game of “robbing Peter to pay Paul,” which only got him deeper in debt. He took out a consolidation loan to pay off all the cards and put the debts in one big payment, but the temptation of all the empty cards was too much for him and he filled them all back up again. He finally had to declare bankruptcy because he was so deeply in debt that it was beyond his ability to ever pay off.

So, take a good look at what is going on in your life. Why do you have credit problems? Are you in debt because of circumstances beyond your control or is it a chronic situation? Are you still getting deeper into debt or are you fixing the problem? There is no point in fixing your credit if you will just end up losing it.

If you find that you are getting too deep in debt, there are several things you can do right away to help the situation, before it gets out of your control.

* Contact the credit card companies and see if they will work with you to help lower the monthly payments. * Talk to a nonprofit credit counseling company, like Consumer Credit Counseling Service at http://www.cccsintl.org. They provide budget counseling, educational programs, debt management assistance and housing counseling. They have branches in many location of the United States.

Beware of some “for profit” organizations that will help you with debt consolidation loans. Often they are very costly. Why go to them when you can get free reliable help from a respected non-profit organization like Consumer Credit Counseling Service?

There is no quick fix for credit problems, but with a little patience and determination, you can not only get it under control, but you can end up with great credit and the feelings of success and self-worth that go along with it. So take the first step and determine to get debt free today!

Identity Theft Commercials Are Really Happening

1

Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 05-02-2010

You may have laughed off at the absurdity that is shown in identity theft commercials. But they should be not something to laugh about.

Some commercials may have even touched or scared you. But the most effective identity commercials are those that make people wary whenever they go out or use their credit cards.

What you see on television is actually a example of what might happen in reality. No matter how funny or violent these identity theft commercials maybe, they are nothing compared to what can happen in real life.

You can actually benefit and learn from watching commercials about identity theft. Try to listen to the accounts of identity theft victims talking about all the things the thief was able to purchase and what they have accomplished using your identity.

Identity theft is not just what you see in your tube. They are real and actual problems that still have no solutions. On the contrary, it is getting worse and worse as time goes by.

The more conservative methods used by identity thieves consist of stealing records or information while on the job and stealing your mail, such as bank and credit card statements, credit card offers, new checks and tax information.

Mail can be stolen while it is to and from your mailbox. A thief can fill out a “change of address” form and have your mail brought to a different address. They can also gain access to your information by going through your trash or the trash of businesses or public trash dumps.

To get a credit report, identity thieves may pretend to be a landlord, an employer or someone else who may have legal right to admission to your personal information.

Even if you think your own personal information is well protected, you may not be aware of some of the high-tech, and highly clever methods that thieves today are using to get your personal data.

Some of the most popular commercials show some skimming and phishing strategies that identity thieves are doing.

In skimming, identity thieves obtain credit or debit card numbers by putting the information in a data storage device they have put to an ATM or automated teller machine.

On the same note, shoulder surfing is when an identity thief uses a camera phone or positions near a person who is using the ATM or is typing in his or her credit card number into a phone. The most recent trend in this crime involves fraudulent emails. This is quickly becoming one of the frequent cases.

According to results of a survey done by a financial transaction company, around 43 percent of users have received phishing contracts in their emails. In this strategy, identity thieves pose as banks, credit card companies or other institutions to get you to give out information such as passwords or account numbers. In the more sophisticated strategy also known as pharming, users that are trying to get into a certain site is mislead to fake sites that have the same address.

Now that you already know some of the identity theft cases, you maybe wondering if you can use the measures you have seen on identity theft commercials. Although some of them may be reality-based and can actually work, it is important that you also know some of important things not seen in those commercials.

Consumers can avoid being an identity theft victim by using only ATMs that they are familiar with, checking out the machine to be certain that nothing looks out of the ordinary and covering up the pin number you are using.

You should continue maintaining your monthly checks and statements for at least one year in case you need to disagree over a particular check transaction made.

Finally, when you throw out papers that have personal information, such as ATM , bank checks, etc. try to shred them first before dumping. It is also a good idea to keep a file of all credit cards, account numbers, expiration dates and credit card customer service phone numbers in a safe place in case your cards are stolen or lost.

You can never be too careful these days. Anyone can be a victim of identity theft, commercial or no commercial.

Unsolicited Emails and Spam – Prevent Identity Theft

0

Posted by Benedict Perez | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 18-01-2010

You can prevent identity theft if you are aware of the situations leading to that scam. Most often, it is your willingness to respond and give away personal information to unverified sources coming from unsolicited mails. This is unfortunately the most common mistake committed by internet users and social networkers who have been victimized with identity theft.

Social networkers and internet users are susceptible victims of identity theft because they are too eager to amass a great number of friends on the web. With this goal in mind, they commit the most common mistake of willingly giving away their personal information to anyone they find amusing or interesting. They also fail to realize that these could be people with bogus identities.

There are also sites which pretend to offer lots of things from books to travels but in return they would ask for your credit number or bank account number. You will get the promise of receiving enormous sum of money as gifts or bonus. This is dangerous indeed for these are expert hackers and can decode your passwords or PINs to gain access to your accounts and everything is history.

These thieves often offer tempting gifts or reward usually in monetary form but they need the information about your credit number and bank account number. This is a ploy being adapted by some bogus sites in order to attract the unsuspecting online shoppers. Thus, it is very important to take caution with these types of unbelievable offers if you want to prevent identity theft.

In online shopping you can stay with your favorite store especially if you are using debit card or credit card for your mode of payment. You can also choose the safe and reputable sites when you prefer to do shopping online. Always be vigilant for the safety signs which are very visible as open the website. This security sign is readily seen in a matter of seconds flashing right on screen.

You can prevent identity theft if you are extra careful at all time with transactions over the net. As much as possible, if you are a patron or a loyal customer of a certain web store it is best that you transact only with that store. Be careful with your passwords and PIN codes for these can be fatal to your account credibility if you are careless.

It is easier to prevent identity theft than retrieving a lost or restoring a destroyed name or reputation. This is something which you will have to live up with for the rest of your life which is of course very demoralizing. These criminals are very good in getting you into their evil schemes.

You must be aware with their legal operations such as email spoofing and phishing. These methods are very rampant on the web and these are usually applied to internet users especially to people who are into social networking. Never give five to anyone your email add or personal information or answer questionnaires asking for them. The next time you receive some unsolicited mails or phone calls, you can do yourself a huge favor by rejecting or “spamming” them at once to prevent identity theft.

Identity theft has gone rampant these days and you never know who’s going to be the next victim. To prepare yourself from this unscrupulous crime, you should prevent identity theft to have peace of mind.

How to Avoid Credit Attorney Scams

Fixing a bad credit report is not a pleasant experience. There are basically two ways of going about the credit repair process.

Many people decide first to fix their own credit only to discover the process is much more involved than they expected. This is because they are trying to save a few dollars by going the inexpensive route.

Unfortunately you may discover that repairing bad credit is one of those projects that only appears easy. There is so much to the process including legal research and writing, which is challenging even for credit lawyers at times.

If you are not the type of person who enjoys legal research in your free time, or don’t have patience for translating wordy statutes and confusing case laws from around the country, then this might not be for you. But if you are determined enough to plow through the stacks of law books, then you should expect to spend at least a a few Sunday afternoons researching applicable credit laws at your local library.

Assuming you are able to understand the case law and statutes, then you have to move onto the more important part of credit repair. The next step is to write a coherent and compelling dispute letter. You will need to cite the applicable case law and disputed items.

For example, the credit bureaus are trained to be on the lookout for those people trying do it yourself credit repair. They can easily spot the dispute letters written by amateurs. This can be a problem since credit bureaus are infamous for ignoring badly written dispute letters.

Even if you are a good writer, you probably are not going to enjoy standing in line at the post office. To ensure your dispute receives a proper investigation, you will need to mail the letter via United States Certified Mail.

By now you are probably wishing you had more free time. Mailing dispute letters via certified mail takes a lot of time. Unless you are extremely casual about how you spend your free time, this is probably not worth your time.

Disputing bad credit errors on your own also takes an organized office space and a strategic plan. For example, you will need a spreadsheet to track the progress of each disputed item. Plus, you will need to give yourself reminders or some type of alert in the event the bureaus or creditors have allowed the proper investigation period to expire.

As you can see credit repair is not a fun experience. There are so many better and more efficient uses of your time. Plus, it is difficult to learn and apply complex legal statutes and case law to your unique credit experience.

Posted by admin | Posted in Credit Card Fraud Information | Posted on 06-12-2009

Im not sure if it’s legit, but if it was I guess I would be a multimillion aire by now. How many of you have received emails by so-called online lottery companies(and there are different names they go by) informing you that you have been choosen by a random drawing of emails of users world wide by a computer system and that you have won $1,000,000 U.S. dollars. I don’t know about you, but I constantly recieved emails like these once every month or so and each time its by a different lottory company with different sponsors. I think there are evil and desperate people out there who would do anything to steal your identity and money to go to this length. The reason why I’m posting this is to find out am I the only target of this so-called online lottery or are there many people out there who also have been the victim of this cruel tactic. If this by any chance happens to be honestly true, then let me know if you have actually won anything. Most likely this is a fraud.
